1 to 1 Chromebooks FAQ
Question 1: How is BHS preparing for a 1 to 1 environment?
BHS has implemented a phased-in approach to the use of these devices. Emphasis over the past two years has been on the use of Google Apps for Education and Google Drive to enhance classroom instruction. In addition, last year we introduced multiple carts of Chromebooks available for classroom use. With the help of the bond that just passed, our district is committed to updating our current infrastructure to support these devices.
Question 2: What happens if a Chromebook is damaged or lost?
BHS will replace or repair a Chromebook that is damaged for a fee. If it is decided that the Chromebook is damaged beyond repair, the fee would be equivalent to the replacement cost of the device ($225). Lost or stolen devices will also be (Need Help With This.)
Question 3. How will technical support be provided for the Chromebooks?
We are looking at creative ways to support the devices including utilizing the BHS “Geek Squad” for basic repairs. Student helpers will only work on simple hardware issues and will not have access to any Chromebook monitoring capabilities. We also will be purchasing systems that allow some issues to be assessed and repaired remotely. In addition, our plan is to have some extra devices to be swapped out seamlessly when device issues arise thus lessening the need for speedy repair in these circumstances. With these plans in mind we will be continuously assessing our capacity to address tech issues in a timely and effective manner.
Question 4. How will the safety and security of the students be protected while at home?
We will be purchasing a filtering solution that will apply at home and at school. All student activity on the Chromebooks is logged and can be accessed and recovered in case any issues arise. The Chromebook's built-in camera cannot be monitored or activated remotely so this element of student privacy is secure.
Question 5. What will be the protocol for students who forget their devices?
There will be a bank of extra Chromebooks that can be checked out by students. The loan period will just be for the school day unless there is a problem with the Chromebook. In this case, we will swap out for a loaner until the original device is repaired
