Bring Your Own Device
Our world is constantly changing. One area where this is certainly most prevalent is with the access to a variety of forms of technology. Bethany High School is committed to assisting students and staff in creating a 21st century learning environment. In efforts to support this progress, Bethany High School would like for every student to have their own device to use during the 2015-2016 school year. Unfortunately, due to funding, we can not guarantee this will happen. We would like to extend the opportunity to our students to participate in the Bring Your Own Device 1:1 initiative. Students will now be able to access our wireless network with their personal devices (laptops, Macbooks, Chromebooks, etc) during the school day. Through this Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative, student devices may be used to access current references or information and access teacher/school websites. They may also be used to organize files, assignments, and/or reminders. Furthermore, teachers are continuing to research ways of improving student engagement, motivation, and learning with the use of technology. The students have been, and will continue to be, instructed on the proper use of technology in the classroom. Teachers will actively supervise student use of the devices during the school day. This BYOD initiative is not a requirement for our students. If a student does not have their own personal technology to use in class, it will not hinder their educational opportunities.
We are offering three options to our parents:
Every student that will be attending BHS next year is required to fill out the form below choosing which option best fits their needs. The link below will take you directly to the form. These forms should be completed by August 2, 2015. At that time, the link will no longer be available. Failure to submit this form by August 2nd will delay your student’s enrollment/schedule pick-up/parking process.

This is an exciting time for the community, our high school students and teachers, and for the school district. We are moving into a new era! The immediate access to technology and increased use of Chromebooks in education will have a beneficial effect on student learning and achievement. We truly want our students to be able to compete in our local economy and in the global market by utilizing the 1:1 program. This move will help engage students in critical thinking, collaboration and communication. We will be sending out more information about this initiative in the coming weeks. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at: [email protected].
We are offering three options to our parents:
- Option 1: We wish to purchase a chromebook from the school for $225 (This device is going to be utilized in all classes at BHS, but will be your property). With this option full payment is due by July 31. You can send a check to the school marked Attn: Chromebook Depot or you can pay by credit card at https://squareup.com/market/bethanychromebook.
- If you would like to purchase a Chromebook for your student to use during their remaining years at BHS, we can assist in that process. We have done extensive research and have identified the best Chromebook for the lowest price. The investment in this device will be $225.00. The chromebook we have selected is the 4GB version of the Lenovo N21 Chromebook. This Chromebook is usually priced around $250 and above for a similar model with that amount of power.
- Option 2: We wish to rent a chromebook to use at school and home for $45 for the year ($40 if you provide your own case). This device will be the school's property, but will be used by the student for their entire high school career.
- Every student that is given a Chromebook for the 2015-2016 school year will be assessed a fee to use their device at home. This fee will be collected at the beginning of each school year.
- Option 3: We wish to use our own laptop or chromebook that we already own (This option is subject to approval by the school).
- If your student already owns a device that you would like for them to use for the 2015-2016 school year, we need to know the brand, model, and operating system of the device. It is important for us to have that information for inventory purposes. Due to the types of activities that classes will be using this coming school year an iPad (or another tablet type device) is not a device that will allow students to have a quality experience. Your device must have a keyboard that is part of the device.
